200 preschool children in Nynäshamn get chemistry education thanks to Nynas About 200 preschool children and closer to 100 teachers in Nynäshamn participated last week in chemistry experiments during three whole days. The in Sweden well-know chemistry dragon Berta taught the children fundamental chemistry through working with mixtures, solutions and colours. The hope is that this activity will lead to an increased interest in chemistry. Nynas was behind this three-day arrangement. The company is acknowledging the UN initiative to declare 2011 the Year of Chemistry. Nynas invited children and teachers from the municipality to in a fun way experiment together with Berta, the chemistry dragon and the main character in the book "Bertas experiment book". Chemists from Nynas attended and assisted at the event. "The interest in science has decreased among teenagers and now it is important to turn that trend to be able to solve the future challenges regarding energy and environment," says Hans Östlin, Communications Director at Nynas. "Who knows, maybe the meeting with the dragon Berta will sow a seed in some of the children so that they as adults choose to work with developing Nynas' specialty oils."
