Open refinery in Nynashamn draws attention

The Nynas refinery in Nynäshamn opened its gates for the public on Saturday the 9th of June. High interest spurred visitors to learn more about Nynas and our specialty oils.

Already when the gates opened at 11 AM a large group of visitors where already there and during the day close to 650 visitors joined us for the activities that took place. The smallest children tried out to make their own asphalt paving or visited Berta, the dragon, to learn some basics about chemistry. The fire brigade at the refinery guided visitors and a ride up with the sky lift was very popular. A guided tour round the refinery was well visited throughout the day. In Nynas main tent visitors could browse through a historical exhibition, learn more about the environmental projects carried out at the refinery and, not to missed, grab a cup of coffee.

Balloons and candy-floss mixed with technical information from the refinery gave a good mix for young and old who seemed happy with the arrangements. "As a large and important neighbor in the society in Nynäshamn it seemed natural to invite our neighbors to learn more about our operations and what we do at the refinery" says Cyril Thebault, Production Manager at the Nynäshamn refinery.

More than 100 replies also came in on the quiz that was used during the event. Three lucky winners were awarded prizes, Clas Magnusson, M-B Augustsson and Joacim Nieminen. They all had 10 out of ten on the quiz and was very close on guessing the length of the rope in the decisive and final question (the rope was 1036 cm long).

To open the refinery for our neighbors was a great experience and Nynas will very likely take the opportunity to do this again in the years to come. Thanks to all who made this a great Saturday!
