The oil that reappears

The vast majority of crude oil becomes fuel, which is consumed the instant it is used, leaving only a trail of fumes. Very little of the oil produced at Nynas' refineries ends up as fuel.

Instead, it is used in printing inks. And in bitumen for roads and roofing. And in lubricants, adhesives, cars, appliances, tyres, PVC, the list is (almost) endless. A product specialist at Nynas, says "Unlike fuel, our products can be recycled, some of them many times over. We try to take a finite resource – oil – and make it last as long as the human imagination and technology will allow."
