What is it like to work for Nynas? Here four employees share their experiences.
Annika Ahlm
“I had a temporary job at Nynas back when I was a student. After graduating in Chemical Engineering I was employed as a Project Manager and am now a Production Engineer at the refinery in Nynäshamn. This means that I’m responsible for resolving emergency production problems by such means as supporting the operating teams, optimising the plants’ functionality and performing troubleshooting. Nynas is a company with a difference; it’s small yet at the cutting edge of the market. Every day brings new challenges, you work independently and there’s a good atmosphere. Another advantage is that internal recruitment is encouraged, which means that you can develop within the company while at the same time there’s a sharing of knowledge and experiences between business areas.”

“I started working for Nynas in autumn 2007 and took up my current position as Plant Manager in April 2009. My main responsibilities are to manage all aspects of the operations function at the Dundee Refinery ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation and to ensure that products are manufactured to schedule and meet quality specifications and customer requirements. Nynas is a good company to work for and employees are treated with respect. There are opportunities to become involved in networks and projects outside off your daily role that can provide you with skills which are beneficial in advancing your career. The best thing about Nynas? The opportunity to work with talented, professional and friendly people. The large variety of work, projects and initiatives, and finally the teamworking environment and the feeling that your work effort contributes to the future success of the company.”

“My main responsibility is selling bitumen products to customers in Southern Germany against the background of a target to reinforce the brand and increase our market share. The work also includes keeping in touch with laboratories, universities and other partners that help us to develop new applications. After completing my Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, I worked as Project Engineer at a construction company, and then at the asphalt and bitumen association in Germany. I appreciate the international atmosphere in Nynas, and the fact that management takes an interest in me as a person, not just as an employee. For example, I received plenty of support during my pregnancy and when my daughter was born. I’ve learnt a lot about the industry since starting at Nynas, and I’ve been to places and done things that have helped me to grow professionally.”

“I’ve been working at the sales office in Shanghai since April 2007. My background is a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a qualification in Environmental Technologies, and I worked previously at a medical equipment company. The reason why I chose Nynas is that it’s one of the world’s leading manufacturers of naphthenic specialty oils. I also appreciate the culture that runs through the company, the customer-oriented approach and the fact that there is a focus on both teamwork and developing individual skills. The best thing about working at Nynas? Everyone is respected, there’s an emphasis on cooperation and openness, and the educational opportunities reinforce your career prospects.”
