Rena Soh has been nominated for the ICIS Rising Star - Asia Pacific Award, which celebrates the best up and coming talent in the base oils and lubricants industry.
One of only four nominees selected by a panel of industry experts, the nomination is a great achievement for both Rena Soh and Nynas, where she works as a sales executive, managing a number of countries in Southeast Asia.
“An important part of Rena’s vision is to drive the awareness and sales of naphthenic base oils for lubricants in this region, especially for grease and industrial lubricant applications such as metal cutting fluids and refrigeration oil,” says Philippe Audibert, Nynas Regional Director Asia Pacific.
Despite having no prior background in this industry when she joined Nynas in 2014, Rena Soh was undaunted and quickly started to build her know-how and skillset. She has since almost doubled her base oil sales volumes.
“I enjoy having discussions with my customers and feel that learning from the end users themselves is the best way to acquire new knowledge,” she notes. “As we move towards more digitalization and electrification, I believe that Nynas naphthenic oils have a greater role to play in the industrial lubricants field.”
Rena has been actively involved in various conferences, and projects to enhance the understanding and presence of naphthenic oils in this region. As illustrated by the rising star nomination, she is well respected by customers and colleagues as well as the industry at large.
“In an industry predominantly occupied by more senior people, Rena has injected a fresh perspective and energy to our team and is using her acquired experience to encourage younger colleagues to explore new challenges and roles as well,” notes Philippe Audibert. “We are hopeful that she will be able to make a significant impact in the Asian base oil scene.”
