Oil and sustainability – do they mix?

When you think about oil, sustainability is not the first word that comes to mind. After all, we use millions of barrels of it every day, and most of that goes up in smoke.

At Nynas, we have a very different approach. Yes, we use oil, which is a finite resource. But, and this is an important but, we don't produce fuel – instead we make sustainable products from oil that have a long service life. For example, the bitumen we supply for road surfacing applications is fully recyclable. Our naphthenic oils help ensure a long service life for power transformers. Our tyre oils reduce rolling resistance, which means greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions. And our reagents are giving new life to old asphalt. But we're not only working hard to make our customers more eco-friendly, we're doing everything we can to reduce our own footprint too. That's why our largest refinery is powered predominantly by biofuel. So, yes, oil and sustainability do mix. But only if you make an effort.
