The process engineering department at the Nynas Refinery in Hamburg-Harburg/ Germany consists of process engineers responsible for the development of major asset integrity, maintaining margin and margin growth projects weather for existing products or new opportunities, in principle focusing on pre-studies and concept engineering. The process engineering group supports operation, for example troubleshooting or debottlenecking and improving day-to-day performance and conducting safety reviews for small plant modifications.

The main purpose of this position is to provide process engineering and process safety input for development and implementation of small/ medium sized projects, all plant changes and and/ or contribute to large projects and ensure technical integrity for all plant changes.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare (pre-) scouting reports and BODs for projects.
  • Contributes to the development of BODs, BDPs and BDEPs. This includes liaising with contractors and providing quality control and technical input.
  • Leads HAZOPs and safety engineering and/or process risk assessments and ensures process safety aspects for all plant changes and small / medium size projects, signs-off plant changes.
  • Focal Point for Management of Change (MOC) and development of process safety KPIs.
  • Independently work within budget plans to achieve set goals for the position and the group.

Candidate profile

  • Holds a Master degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Has minimum 5 years practical experience in the oil refining or chemical industry.
  • Has a solid technical background in oil refining or chemical processes.
  • Fluent skills in English and German and well developed IT skills are required.
  • Is self-reliant, flexible and have the ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to manage changes and uncertainties, anticipating problems through good risk management.
  • Good communication skills across various disciplines, effectively directing work in a matrix organization.
  • Skilled at managing a various group of stakeholders within his projects (intern and extern).
