Nynas becomes the owner of depot in Drammen

On June 5th 2014, Nynas signed an agreement with Statoil to take over the bitumen depot on Holmen in Drammen, Norway.

“We are delighted to take over the depot in Drammen. With this new investment, we secure that Nynas can deliver quality bitumen long-term to the Norwegian market. The deliveries from the depot represent a significant proportion of the Norwegian market,” says Kjell-Arne Juul, Managing Director at Nynas AS.

The depot has a very strategic position situated on the Holmen island in the outlet of the Drammen river into the Drammen fjord. This is one of the most expanding areas in Norway, with a strong population growth and located close to Oslo. The depot is easily accessed by vessel to and from the Nynas refinery in Gothenburg and has easy distribution access to the eastern and southern parts of Norway. 

Nynas can deliver a wide range of products from the depot in Drammen. However, special products such as oxidized bitumen, emulsions and PMB will still be supplied from our network in Sweden.

Nynas has since 1997 had a lease agreement with Statoil for deliveries of bitumen from the depot and has over the years increased the throughput significantly.

“By taking over the depot in Drammen, Nynas will fully control the operation and develop the depot according to the Nynas standard,” Kjell-Arne Juul continues.

With this agreement, Nynas will not take over any customers, sales or marketing assets from Statoil.

The general license, that permits companies to continue to trade with Nynas without breaching US sanctions, has been extended to allow time to finalise the process to lift the sanctions on Nynas.

Södertörn's District Court today approved an extension of Nynas company reorganisation for another three months, until June 15. The reorganisation process will now continue with a focus on actions for removal of US sanctions applicable to the company and to finalise the long-term funding.
