In connection with the 71st STLE Annual Meeting and Exhibition, Jinxia Li from Nynas was presented with the prestigious Walter D. Hodson Award.
On 15-19 May the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) held its annual conference, this time in Las Vegas. The STLE, which was founded in Chicago in 1944, is the leading international technical association in the field of tribology (friction, wear and lubrication).
During the five-day conference, which attracted around 1,600 participants from all over the world, more than 500 technical papers, application-based case studies and best practice reports were presented. It also featured panel discussions about technical trends and market development.
In connection with the conference, various awards were also presented to recognise important contributions to the industry. One of these is the Walter D. Hodson Award, named in honour of one of the STLE’s founders. The award is presented to the lead author of the best paper written by a youthful STLE member and published by the Society during the year preceding the Annual Meeting.
This time the Walter D. Hodson Award went to Jinxia Li for her paper entitled “Lubricating Grease Shear Flow and Boundary Layers in a Concentric Cylinder Configuration”, which was published in the journal Tribology Transactions in 2014.
Since January 2016 Jinxia Li has been working at Nynas, as a Development Engineer within Naphthenics Technical Development and Market Support. She defended her doctoral thesis in 2014 at Luleå University of Technology, where the focus of her research was to study grease flows in wall-bounded and free-surface flows using experiments and modelling methods.
“My work at Nynas is primarily about product development of naphthenic base oil in lubrication and grease applications with a focus on the rheology and tribology perspective,” says Jinxia Li.
With the recruitment of Jinxia Li, Nynas further enhances its position in the lubricating greases segment.
“This is a very special recognition that is given to one student each year, and it highlights the high impact that Jinxia’s research has had in the world of tribology. Jinxia’s knowledge and expertise in the field of grease rheology is of great interest at Nynas, as lubricating grease producers are important consumers of naphthenic oils, and by having a higher expertise in-house we have a better understanding and can provide better service to these customers,” says Dr. Luis Bastardo-Zambrano, Manager Technical Development and Market Support Nynas Naphthenics.
With an electric car revolution on its way and an ever-growing appetite for mobile phones, computers and other gadgets, the world needs to find solutions to increase supply and optimise the use of lithium. Part of that solution comes in the form of naphthenic oils.Read more about Naphthenics help solve the “lithium problem”
Nynas has for many years played a prominent role when the leading players in the lubricant sector gather during the UNITI Mineral Oil Technology Congress. This year’s event will be no exception.Read more about Nynas Forum on Industrial Lubricants 2018
