Preserving pavements sustainably

Economically viable solutions with reduced environmental impact will be the future of road construction and maintenance.

When it comes to maintaining the road network, there is a growing interest in using solutions that can contribute to sustainable development. Such solutions can be achieved through a number of options, including those that specifically target longer lifecycles, cost-effective maintenance options, and a lower environmental impact – the outcomes of which are beneficial for a sustainable economy and road users alike.

Developing these solutions has brought to the market an increase in the use of new technologies to reduce temperatures, alongside new momentum for some established technologies which improve end performance and increase the scope of applications.

The industry is currently showing a lot of interest in different temperature-reducing solutions, such as warm-mix asphalt. There is a significant potential when it comes to energy reduction related to technology where asphalt is made cold by adding binder as an emulsion.

Furthermore, the use of emulsion products and technologies offers great opportunities in the area of other sustainable solutions and overall preservation of pavements.

A combination of forward-thinking and development in asphalt technology is required in order to establish road maintenance management solutions now, and for the future.
