Sharing knowledge across borders

Nynas facilitates Danish study visit to the UK to learn more about 'Racked In' surface dressing techniques.

In June Dansk overfladebehandling (DOB) and Colas, major contractors and Nynas customers in Denmark, visited Nynas UK to learn more about surface dressing techniques that are used in the UK.

Charlotte Nyeng, Head of Sales and Marketing, DOB expressed her wish to benchmark the UK techniques and methods against the ones used in Denmark. Therefore, Charlotte was keen to see how surface dressing works in the UK, especially from a design perspective.

Finn Jensen, Business Manager, DOB and Martin Korsgaard, Chemical Engineer, Colas Viborg also participated in the visit along with Mikkel Capriani, Sales and Logistics Manager, Nynas AS, Jenny Ann Ostlund, Technical Manager, Nynas AB andKristof Bolla, Development Engineer, Nynas AB.

The group was able to see the operations of Eurovia Specialist Treatments as they carried out surface dressing works for Worcestershire Highways on a site near Bromsgrove. The group were on hand to experience the processes of pre patching and ‘Racked In’ surface dressing where 10 mm chippings were applied to a layer of Nynas Duramuls binder followed by 6 mm chippings, used to form a locked-in matrix of stone.

Kevin Amos, Senior Regional Manager, Eurovia Specialist Treatments andDennis Day, Product Application Manager, Nynas UK were on hand to facilitate the tour together with Steve Waller, Special Product Sales Manager, Nynas UK.

Kevin Amos together with his colleagues Neil Bruton, Contracts Manager, and Dave Thacker, Foreman showed the operations and presented previous surface dressing sites.

Environmental benefits

Charlotte Nyeng commented on how few loose chippings there were in the process and how the new dressing could be swept so soon after being done.

DOB and Colas have declared that they wish to see a growth in the use of ‘Racked In’ surface dressing using polymer modified emulsion binders in Denmark. Compared to the currently most common techniques in Denmark, ‘Racked In’ offers clear environmental benefits, for instance through temperature reductions of approximately 60 °C.

In the UK Nynas offer Nynas Fleximuls and Nynas Duramuls for this application.

Finn Jensen noted that by sharing knowledge Nynas could help to deliver big benefits.
