Nynas AB shortlisted for World Sustainability Award 2026

Nynas has emerged as a finalist in the prestigious World Sustainability Awards 2026 for the 'External Collaboration' category. The nomination recognises a groundbreaking partnership with Skanska and Swedavia that successfully deployed a revolutionary, low-carbon infrastructure solution at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

"This nomination highlights Nynas' leadership and technical expertise to embed sustainability into the products, solutions and partnerships that support, the heavy industries and critical infrastructures society depends on every day." says Ingrid Gonzales, Group Sustainability Manager, Nynas.

The international award, hosted by Sustainability Leaders, honours high-impact collaborations that deliver measurable environmental change. Nynas is competing for the top price alongside premier global organisations that have demonstrated leadership in sustainable development and responsible business practices within their industries.

Disrupting infrastructure standards at Arlanda

The shortlisting is driven by a pioneering project marking the first large-scale runway application of Nynas’ specialised polymer-modified bitumen (NYPOL® RE). The partners resurfaced 20,000 m² of heavy-duty pavement using an innovative binder packed with biogenic components and reclaimed asphalt.

This formulation drastically cut the carbon footprint without compromising the extreme safety, durability, and performance standards required for commercial airport infrastructure. The triumph creates a highly scalable blueprint for decarbonising critical transport hubs worldwide.

This year's shortlist recognises those who have embedded sustainability deep into their business strategy, showing remarkable courage, innovation, and resilience in a rapidly evolving global landscape. The winners will be announced during the fall.
