Preserving our road network - it concerns us all

The momentum continues since the first Pavement Preservation & Recycling Summit (PPRS) took place. Let us summarise some conclusions.

Over 1,000 attendees, from 60 countries, representing over 460 of the world’s leading companies in the preservation of pavements and recycling industries, gathered in Paris earlier this year to participate in the PPRS. The support shown for this event demonstrates a high level of recognition for the common challenge the road industry is facing.

The PPRS highlighted important topics and discussions about asset management, economic impacts, social expectations, funding, tools & methods for managing road assets and sustainability.  All of which support the solutions for better road maintenance.

Some of the most powerful messages were presented by Jean-Francois Corté, General Secretary, World Road Association (PIARC), in his closing speech.

  • Preserving our road networks is a truly international concern shared throughout the world.
  • There is convergence of views about the need for taking action
  • A number of initiatives are already being taken by road authorities and the road industry and examples such as new materials, asset management practices, financing schemes, and contracting can be seen in the market.
  • Experience sharing and bench marking across the industry globally adds value to meeting the common challenge.
  • A collective approach to promotion and communication offers greater potential to reaching key influencers and decision-makers.
  • We have to create 'social interest' regarding this industry challenge  and empower road users to get their voices heard.
