A standard process oil that can be trusted to perform well in many different applications, NYTEX® 810 is particularly useful for two important applications – antifoams and insoluble sulfur.
“OUR NYTEX® 810 naphthenic process oil has the right mix of sought-after properties that help chemical industries produce great products,” says Ghislain de Quatrebarbes, Market Manager Process oils.
The company’s naphthenic process oil NYTEX® 810 is a hydrotreated, medium viscosity naphthenic oil with low volatility and very good low temperature properties. Add to that an excellent solvent power, making it compatible with a wide range of polymers and resins, and there’s your explanation for its popularity.
Widely appreciated by a broad range of producers, NYTEX® 810’s properties make it particularly useful for a couple of chemical processing applications identified by Ghislain de Quatrebarbes:
“Antifoams benefit from the high solvency power and relatively low viscosity, as these properties increase the dispersion rate, which in turn shortens the processing time, hence helping to optimise production costs.”
Used in everything from paints to foodstuff, oil-based antifoams are surface-active agents that prevent or reverse the formation of foam.
“Insoluble sulfur benefits from NYTEX® 810’s relatively high polarity which helps to wet the sulfur surface. Its high solvency power is also promoting the stability of formulations, prolonging the shelf life of products.”
Often mixed with oil to prevent dusting and to improve processing, insoluble sulfur is a vulcanising agent used in the rubber industry.
Creosote is a category of carbonaceous chemicals that has been used as a wood preservative since the 19th century. However, as it is a toxic and carcinogenic substance, there are good reasons to look for other options.Read more about NYTEX® black oils – a safe alternative to creosote in wood treatment
The long-term trend of a reduced supply of Group I oils is accelerating. It is now time for formulators to consider Group I replacements for applications such as industrial lubricants, metalworking fluids and process oil. Nynas’ NYBASE® range is engineered for this very purpose.Read more about Time to reformulate as Group I departs
