Vasile's transformer customers in Argentina's chilly and electricity-hungry south know well the cold-climate benefits of Nynas naphthenic oils.
As demand for electrical transformers surges in Argentina, the local manufacturer Vasile wants to expand its business further – with export plans on the horizon – and has turned to Nynas as a reliable oil provider to help achieve that goal. As Nynas offers naphthenic oils for cold climates, an operating condition several of Vasile’s customers face, Nynas has become a key supplier.
Vasile has been using Nynas oils since late 2010, when the company needed to look for an alternative provider. Very satisfied with Nynas’ products and customer service, it gradually increased the amount of oil it buys. “Nynas always has what we need,” says Alberto Vasile, the company president who inherited the family business from his father, Angel Francisco Vasile. “And we’re happy with the product.”
On top of the quality of the oil, Nynas’ efficient, personalised and flexible service is valued by the Argentine company. Alberto Vasile highlights how reliable Nynas is as a provider and how fast it responds to his company’s needs. He admits that he prefers to pay a little more to get great service. “Nynas understands that if we don’t have oil, we have to stop our production,” he explains.
Vasile makes distribution and power transformers for a variety of industries. The number one manufacturer of distribution transformers in Argentina, the Buenos Aires-based company is looking to grow in the power transformers segment. “The challenge we face is to be able to meet the great demand on time,” says Mr. Vasile. He explains that there was a lack of investment in energy infrastructure in Argentina for 20 years, but the past decade has witnessed economic growth and a change in consumer habits – which explain the surge in demand.
Part of the demand comes from the south of the country, where the climate can be quite cold in winter (in the city of Rió Gallegos, for example, temperatures drop below freezing at night from June to August). To meet international safety requirements, power distribution companies are asking specifically for transformers with naphthenic oils because the oils have a low pour point, which means that they don’t solidify as soon as paraffinic oils do when temperatures drop. A client recently asked specifically for naphthenic oil with a natural inhibitor, so Vasile turned to Nynas’ Nytro Libra to satisfy the request.
Daniel Juncosa, Vasile’s industrial manager, says the company chose Nynas because it’s a “reliable supplier that offers a variety of quality products”. He also notes that Nynas has a big selection of products and the “capability to supply oils of special characteristics”. “It’s important for our company to use reliable oils with good dielectric and thermal performance and with oxidation stability to ensure a safe performance of our transformers during their life,” says Juncosa. As Vasile expects to keep expanding its production levels, the company also plans to increase the amount of oil it buys from Nynas.
Juncosa underlines that the oil, solid insulation and the main accessories are key to sustaining Vasile’s leadership position in the market. Vasile is a family business founded 70 years ago by Alberto Vasile’s father, who started to manufacture small transformers for neon signs at a small rented warehouse. By the 1970s, the company had 70 percent of its market in Argentina, explains Mr. Vasile.
Still in engineering school, he joined the company in 1974 and pushed to refocus the business, because sales of neon signs were declining. That’s when Vasile started making small distribution transformers. Now, when the company is investing to grow in the power transformers market, the third generation of Vasiles is getting ready to take the family business to the next level. Mr. Vasile’s three sons are actively involved in the daily operations of the firm. When the family is able to meet its domestic demand, which is twice its present output capacity, the Vasiles also plan to start exporting.
Vasile is a family business founded in 1945 that manufactures distribution transformers, power transformers (high and mid voltage), special transformers for the mining industry and special transformers for the oil industry (upstream and refineries). Their main clients are electric power distribution and generation companies; big players in the mining, oil, steel, cooking oil and cement industries; industrial parks; and residential real estate developers. The company is set to almost double production space at its 8,000 m2 factory on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The company currently has 170 employees.
NYTRO Libra is an uninhibited transformer oil that conforms to IEC 60296 Edition 5.0. Developed and formulated to deliver solid resistance to oil degradation, NYTRO Libra provides good oxidation stability thanks to its natural inhibitors. This increases the possibilities for a longer transformer life with less maintenance.Read more about NYTRO Libra (IEC 60296, ED. 5) - Standard grade
