On 23 January, a new laboratory was officially opened for Nynas’ special oils in the tyre and industrial rubber segments.
Following speeches to mark the opening by Mika Lahtinen, Technical Manager TYR, and Nynas’ CEO Gert Wendroth, visitors were shown around the Rubber Compounding Laboratory at the Nynas Global Technology Centre in Nynäshamn.
A number of instruments were presented during the opening ceremony, with everything from an intermeshing 1.5 litre rubber mixer and a two-roll mill, which are used to prepare rubber and TPE materials, to the Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). The latter is used to study the viscoelastic properties of polymers and can indicate, for example, the wet grip and rolling resistance of a rubber material. Together with the other instruments, the laboratory can be used to measure important properties such as viscosity, curing rates, traction properties and abrasion resistance.
The new laboratory improves Nynas’ ability to evaluate the performance of different oils in rubber, which means they are even better able to help customers find the oils that are most suitable for their particular applications.
