Caverns, ski slopes, rain forest – sometimes Nynas is faced with especially tough logistical challenges. This is particularly true of Lake Manapouri in New Zealand.
In this lake there is an underground hydroelectric power station that with an installed capacity of 850 MW is one of the biggest power stations in the country. Nynas supplied transformer oil to the facility back in 2011, and will now once more be transporting 160 tonnes of Nytro Gemini X, one of Nynas high performance transformer oils. In addition to handling the complex logistics in general, Nynas’ employees have to plan with extra care as only one barge a week crosses the lake to get to the plant.
“The oil is shipped in ISO tanks from Antwerp to Invercargill – one of the southernmost cities in the world – and then on by road to Manapouri. Once there, the trucks with the oil are carefully loaded onto barges, to cross the lake. The trucks are then unloaded and reverse for two kilometres down to the power station’s machine hall, where the oil is pumped into the transformers using extra-long hoses,” says Candice Lewis at Nynas’ sales office in Australia.
We would like you to join us in our virtual booth where some of the world's leading experts on transformer oil will share valuable insights. The dates are November 25-26 and the venue is GCC Power 2020 E-conference.Read more about Welcome to our virtual booth at GCC Power 2020 E-conference
