Extensively appreciated for its whiteness and brightness by producers of mainly paint, plastics and paper, but also cosmetics, titanium dioxide (TiO2), clearly needs to be as white as possible.
Unfortunately, the most popular and least wasteful production method for TiO2, a chlorine process used for around 60 % of the global capacity, also results in impurities that can cause discolouration in end products.
However, help is at hand from Nynas NYFLEX® and NYTEX® naphthenic oils.
“An excellent solvent power enables these oils to form complexes with metal chloride impurities, making them easy to wash away through a distillation method, leaving TiO2 of an increased purity,” explains Dr. Gaia Franzolin, Nynas Global Marketing Manager.
And the growing market for TiO2, valued at USD 13.3 billion in 2015 and expected to enjoy an annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 8.9 % from 2016 to 2025, offers great scope for Nynas.
