The global Norwegian industrial group Yara International is the first in the world to use a totally electric container ship in commercial operation. To make the transition from land to sea transport, a new quay facility is being built.
This unique battery-powered ship, with a capacity of 7 MWh, will be transporting fertilisers from the factory in Porsgrunn to the ports in Brevik and Larvik in Southern Norway.
With the new zero-emission ship in operation, Yara is able to eliminate at least 40,000 diesel-powered truck journeys, which brings significant benefits in terms of both safety and emissions of NOx and CO2.
To make the transition from land to sea transport, a new quay facility is being built in Porsgrunn. The paving is being carried out by Peab Asfalt on behalf of the main contractor, NRC.
In view of the major static and dynamic loads that occur in a harbour, Peab Asfalt chose to use Nynas Endura Z3 as it is a stiff, highly modified binder that provides a high resistance to deformation.
