Sokndal, Norway

The recently opened Motorcenter Norway offers everything from go-carting to drag racing. Nynas was involved in the project by supplying Nypol HF 105, a polymer-modified bitumen ideal for pavements that are subjected to high stresses.

In an idyllic area in South West Norway, a couple of hours’ drive from the oil capital Stavanger, Motorcenter Norway was officially opened during the summer. It is a complete facility offering everything from go-carting to drag racing, as well as an area for off-roading and Europe’s biggest motocross hall.

The actual race track – 2.3 km long with 14 curves and a height difference of 23 m – is adapted for both cars and motorcycles, and is approved in accordance with the international standards FIA Grade 3 and FIM Grade B.

There are particularly strict requirements for both the quality and application of the asphalt for these kinds of special facilities. The work was completed at the end of June by the Norwegian contractor Velde.

Nynas was also involved in the project by supplying Nypol HF 105, a polymer-modified bitumen that provides an optimal balance between toughness and flexibility, making it ideal for pavements that are subjected to particularly high stresses.
