Roadmap to reliability

With 50 years’ experience of perfecting naphthenic base oils, Nynas offers a sustainable, high-performance alternative as Group I supply tightens. Our broad portfolio of naphthenic grades and Group II/naphthenic blends are not just replacements – they are an upgrade.

Greases – Efficiency in Every Step

Nynas naphthenic base oils improve grease production by reducing thickener use and cooking temperatures, cutting energy costs. Their superior oil-soap interaction lowers bleeding and extends product shelf life, while excellent low-temperature flow ensures reliable performance across applications. With a broad product range, there's a perfect match for every formulation.

The power of naphthenics

Nynas naphthenic base oils bring a unique combination of properties that make them ideal in a wide range of demanding industrial applications.

Superior Solvency

Dissolves more additives than paraffinics, improving formulation flexibility. Low Aniline Point = High Solvency.

Excellent Low-Temperature Performance

Keeps fluids flowing in Arctic and aviation-grade conditions. Pour points as low as <-70°C.

Low Toxicity

IP 346 label-free and low in PAHs. Safer for people and the planet.

Efficient Heat Transfer

Improves cooling and thermal control. Ideal for shock absorbers and compressors.

Wide Viscosity Range

From 3 to 700 cSt @ 40°C – perfect for tailored formulations. From spindle oils to greases.

Metalworking Fluids – Additive-Friendly, Emulsion-Ready

Thanks to their high solvency, Nynas oils dissolve and stabilise complex additive packages, making them ideal for modern semi-synthetic metalworking fluids. Their emulsion stability and high density also enhance performance in central systems, while efficient cooling extends tool life and reduces downtime.

Metal Forming Fluids – Handling the Pressure

In demanding forming operations, Nynas naphthenic oils deliver high additive solubility and formulation flexibility. Their strong thermal properties ensure effective cooling under extreme pressure, while stable emulsions contribute to smooth operations and less waste.

Industrial Lubricants – Precision, Protection, Performance

Nynas base oils are used alone or in blends for a variety of industrial lubricants. They offer excellent additive solubility, help control deposits and improve seal compatibility. With viscosities ranging from light to heavy, they support everything from aviation hydraulics to gear oils.

Refrigeration Oils – Clean, Cold, and Consistent

Our Nyfrost grades are hydrotreated naphthenic base oils specially developed for refrigeration compressors. Available in ISO VG 32, 46, 68, and 100, they offer a low floc point, excellent refrigerant compatibility, and clean, depositfree performance with ammonia, hydrocarbons, and CFCs.

Nynas Base Oils

NYNAS® NS 3 / T 3

  • Very low viscosity
  • Excellent low-temperature performance and high solvency
  • Ideal for high VI hydraulic fluids, especially in extreme cold (e.g. aviation use at –54°C)
  • Supports high polymer load (10–20% VI Improvers) while maintaining solubility and fluidity

NYNAS NS 8 / T 9

  • Low viscosity with strong low-temp properties
  • High solvency, excellent for dissolving additives
  • Suitable for metalworking emulsions and low-temp hydraulic fluids

Nynas EVO – Same specification, same performance, reduced carbon footprint

A large selection of Nynas’ existing naphthenic oils is offered under the EVO portfolio, delivering a significantly lower carbon footprint while maintaining the same performance as standard grades.

By using bio-waste derived feedstock in the production process, most of the NYNAS EVO products achieve a 25% reduction in carbon footprint.

This reduction is verified by a third-party reviewed life cycle assessment and certified by ISCC Plus through mass balance allocation.

NYNAS T 22 / BT 22

  • Mid viscosity base oils with high solvency
  • Enhanced emulsion stability, ideal for semi-synthetic metalworking fluids
  • Can carry high additive loads
  • Also used in low-temperature greases

NYNAS S 90 / NS 100 / T 110 / BT 150

  • High viscosity grades with varying solvency profiles
  • T 110 / BT 150 = optimised solvency, S 90 = optimised refining degree hence lower solvency
  • Up to 28°C lower Aniline Point vs. paraffinics (SN 500), enabling better additive solubility, improved emulsion formation, enhanced grease production

NYNAS T 400 / BT 400

  • Very high-viscosity naphthenic bright stock
  • Exceptional solvency compared to Group I SN 2500 (Aniline Point approximately 28°C lower)
  • Ideal for grease manufacturing, high-viscosity industrial lubricants, metalforming emulsions (e.g., tube drawing)
