NYTHERM - Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA)
NYTHERM enables lower-temperature asphalt without compromising quality.
NYTHERM is a specialized bitumen binder developed by Nynas, designed for use in warm mix asphalt (WMA) applications.
Unlike traditional hot mix asphalt, which is produced at temperatures between 130°C and 185°C, WMA incorporating NYTHERM can be produced and laid at significantly lower temperatures, typically with up to 30°C lower production temperature.
This reduction in temperature offers several benefits, including:
- Decreased energy consumption
- Lower greenhouse gas emissions
- Improved working conditions for paving crews.

Lower Temperature – Same Performance
NYTHERM contains a specially formulated component that influences the surface tension within the binder, improving its ability to spread and adhere to aggregate at lower temperatures.
Despite the lower processing temperatures, NYTHERM maintains excellent durability, adhesion, and resistance to premature aging.
Our research shows that NYTHERM, through gentler processing and lower temperatures, reduces binder oxidation and helps preserve long-term pavement performance.
